Black Sun Empire - From The Shadows

(Press Release)

From The Shadows is Black Sun Empire’s fifth studio album, the follow up to 2010’s incredibly successful Lights & Wires,an album which showcased the Dutch trio’s diversity and ability to bring a fresh take on all forms of bass music. Hailing from Utrecht, The Netherlands, Black Sun Empire is made up of brothers Milan and Micha Heyboer and close friend René Verdult. Together this threesome has consistently displayed an innate ability to turn crowds upside down and bring together outstanding long players, packed with visceral energy and unfalteringly exhilarating musical ideas.

Where Lights & Wires saw BSE experiment with tempo and genre, From The Shadows sees them offer a full commitment to their drum & bass roots. This is a high energy, high quality album packed with 170bpm+ beats, gut-wrenching basslines and, most importantly of all a decidedly exciting take on what has become an established dance music formula.

Drawing upon their rich history within the scene Black Sun Empire keep this latest long player feeling fresh with a deluge of features including mau5trap signed MC group Foreign Beggars, New Zealand singer-songwriter Thomas Oliver, Czech cinematic scorer Rido and fellow Dutch drum & bass stars Noisia. This is an unbending, unapologetic, fully charged album that’s infused with dark and brooding atmospheres and offers Black Sun Empire’s immense global fan base twelve brand new and unheard tracks.

And from the opening bars of Black Sun Empire’s ‘Feed The Machine’ ft. Noisia to the closing moments of the trio’s solo track ‘Battalion’ it’s clear that the drum & bass veterans know exactly how to put an album together. From The Shadows flows like an album should. Filled with highs and lows, changes in mood and style, grinding techno-fuelled bass one minute, beautiful wide open vocal-led breakdowns the next, this is an inspired project that feels expertly executed; Black Sun Empire’s cumulative knowledge over five albums clearly shines through here.

As summer subsides this year we suggest you let Black Sun Empire take you out From The Shadows and into the light with their new album.
